Armenians have always had a passion for beautiful linens that set a table, a mood, and an atmosphere of refined splendor. This love of elegance led to the establishment of Mairik.
To achieve our goals of sharing our passion for gorgeous linens with the world, we looked to our own Armenian culture and the fine art of lace making. Our idea was to combine the finest Italian fabrics with the needlework of skilled Armenian artisans to create spectacular table linen.
To ensure that this more than 2000-year-old craft is not lost to history, at Mairik we’ve brought together the “mothers” of this technique to craft their delicate lace, while making sure these special artisans pass on their legacy. In doing so, Mairik brings new life to this specialized technique. Each exclusive piece of table linen creates a piece of history to be passed down from generation to generation for many years to come.
Mairik, which means “mother” in Armenian, highlights a centuries-old technique for crafting lace. The designs are created by intricate knotted stitches that are delicately hand-crafted using only a needle and fine thread. Knowledge and expertise of this unique and delicate craft is now sadly only held by a small group of female artisans. These extraordinary ladies spend up to six months carefully crafting each piece of lace.
Each piece of their handiwork is then combined with luxury linen of the highest quality produced in the famed Jesurum (Burano, Italy) linen house, founded in Venice in 1870.
After the lace is carefully sewn into Jesurum satin and linen, it is delicately packed before it makes the trip to take its place on your dining room table- and in the pages of your family history.
